Friday Date Night

Each Friday night (unless we’re out of town and even then we make an effort to talk on the phone), Joel and I go out on a date. Joel’s parents do this and it inspired us (they have seven kids and still make it work, so we can, too, we figure). It’s a foundation for communication, gazing into each other’s eyes and catching problems as they come up - rather than waiting a month before talking about them.

Monday Morning Makeout Breakfast

I added the “makeout” part. Mostly we just get together at our favorite breakfast place, spend an hour before work setting our priorities for the week ahead. For someone as wild as the wind as I am, this is super helpful. Joel helps us get our priorities straight, I help fill in the blanks with adventure.

Yoga, Meditation

Joel and I practice yoga together regularly. He’s great to practice with because he’s very focused and motivated on the mat. When we finish practicing we meditate together as other students stream out of the room. The practice of meditating and centering together has helped us grow.
